Femme Fatale: Incendius

Happy rainy day before Thanksgiving! It's pretty nasty outside today, and the thought of driving home in this mess is a bit depressing.. Nothing like a good polish to cheer me up, right? :)

I've got another awesome glitter from Femme Fatale today, and I'm lovin' it!!

Yay! I like these polishes quite a bit. I bought a bunch of these awhile back and I'm getting around to actually taking pictures of these. This is a great fall polish, but I'll probably be wearing this year round. This is an orange, yellow, red and blue hex and sqaure and bar glitter. There's a lot going on with this one:

Just seeing this picture makes me smile. That's the sign of a good one, right? I've got some more for you after the jump!

Cult Nails Masquerade: Nail of the Day

Hi There!

Well, sorry to say I don't think you can buy this polish anymore, but I wanted to show a different way to wear it. This is Cult Nail's Masquerade, part of their Midnight Masquerade mini collection from this year. This is what Masquerade looks like normally:

Cult Nails Masquerade

There's a lot of green here, but you can see the purple a bit at this angle. To be honest, I'm not really crazy with this the way it is here. Quality wise, it's a good polish. Nice opacity and not too thin. But for me, it's a bit too much green and not enough purple. That's a shock.. I do love the pink/red flashes in it though. So I decided to layer it over Pretty Serious' Atomic Brain to get this:

Cult Nails MasqueradeCult Nails Masquerade

Yeah, I really wouldn't think that those two colors would make that. This, I like much more. I'll end up wearing Masquerade probably on it's own to get used to having a green on my nails. I kinda like this combination for a Poison Ivy cosplay.. What do you think?

A England Princess Tears

Flyers looked great this weekend! I love beatin up on the Islanders! (Eagles had a bye so I can't gush over them today) I can't get over how different we look, just in a month's worth of time. Keep going! Also, yay for another Simmonds goal! ^_^

On to polish, I've got another purple one today!

Well, at least this is purple-grey, not an all out purple. Bummer for me that I have a similar polish though. I guess that means I'm consistent?
I've got Princess Tears from A England today. This is a purple grey polish with subtle holographic-ness:

Comparison: Zoya Jules versus China Glaze Fast Track

Comparison time!

When I was swatching Jules and Fast Track, I was rolling my eyes because I chronically choose similar colors and I was thinking, "here we go again." They aren't as similar as I thought they were initially, but they're close. Here they are:

Fast Track Jules
Sunlight

Fast Track Jules
Shade
This is two coats of both. It's kinda like Jules is a more opaque version of Fast Track. Jules looks more like an antique kind of gold, which might be why I like the color better on my skintone. Fast Track is definitely more sparkley, while Jules is a bit more subdued.
Looking at these, I'm still torn over Fast Track. I love the shimmer in it enough to get over the fact that I don't think it's super flattering on me.
Hope this is helpful! :)

Five Ways to Wear: Whimsical Ideas by Pam - Thanks!

Hi Everyone!

Thanksgiving is coming up soon, so I decided to dedicate a post to what I'll be wearing on my nails next week! I've got Whimsical Ideas by Pam's Thanks! today. I bought this back in October during the Halloween sale, but it's still available to purchase on her Facebook page!
This is a red, gold and orange glitter in a clear base. I like these types of polishes because I think they're super versatile. I spent a while trying to figure out what I liked this polish layered over best and I thought, "why don't I show this several ways just so you can see how nicely it pairs with a lot of colors!" Here's the end result:

I'll explain the polishes after the jump!

Zoya Jules

More Neutrals!

Today, Zoya's Jules. This is part of their permanent collection. I bought it during one of their buy 4 get 4s that they do every once in awhile. As an aside, if you enjoy Zoya polishes, I recommend that you sign up on their website for notifications because they'll let you know about their BOGOs (they tend to do deals like that every couple of months).

Honey Rainbow Diamond Dust

(Edit! I want to dedicate this post to Wayne Simmonds' second goal of the season, because Wayne Simmonds is awesome.. Carry on)

Look Out!

I've got another purple polish. Shocker! This combination is my favorite in months, I love it so so much. This is from my first Honey Rainbow purchase, and I'm sure I'll be buying more, given how pleased I am.
This is Diamond Dust, from their Final Battle collection, which came out last month. So, let's tally, shall we? Purple polish? Check. Polish named after a video game? Check. Sparkley top coat effect? Check. It has my name all over it.

I have this layered over China Glaze's Rendezvous With You. I've seen this layered over black and it's gorgeous that way too, but I really like it over blues and blue-based purples.

I took tons of pictures!

China Glaze Autumn Nights: Rendezvous With You and Tongue in Chic

Hi there!

I've got two polishes from China Glaze's Autumn Nights collection, Rendezvous With You and Tongue in Chic. China Glaze released a fairly large fall collection, but I've been snagging up lots of polishes from different collections, and I wanted to give my wallet a break so I just purchased two.. I'm trying to be good, but it's hard! I've got more pictures after the jump:

Sephora X Intergalactic

Hi Again!

I guess I wasn't really paying attention when I bought Intergalactic during Sephora's VIB sale, because I was a bit surprised to find that this was a texture-type polish. That's cool though, I enjoy a good texture polish, so I was pleased!

Sephora X Intergalactic

Have you guys ever heard of Fyrinnae cosmetics? This reminds me of their Meerkat eyeshadow in polish form. I think this also may be close to one of Mariah Carey's OPI holiday polishes, but I don't have any of those, so I can't say for sure.

The pictures on the bottom were added a day later, and you can see some minor chipping already after one day. That's with 3 layers of topcoat, so this might be a more chippy kind of polish.

Different Dimension: Wide Awake

Hi!

I'm actually excited about the Flyers' game against Winnipeg tonight! We've been doing so much better lately, and I think we're riding high off that win against the Penguins the other day. I was so excited since I have a few friends that are Pens fans, and it was great to give them a little smug smile when we won!

So today I've got Different Dimension's Wide Awake. I think it's named after Katy Perry's song. That's what I'm going with, anyway. It's described as a "light pink scattered holographic polish with hints of different colors reflected in the light". Let's see how it lives up to the description:

Marc Jacobs Petra: Comparisons

Hello Again!

I recently went a little overboard during Sephora's sale and bought... well, I bought some things. Lol. Among them, Marc Jacob's Petra. I've been eyeing this one for a few weeks and decided to splurge during the 20% off sale. I wanted to put up some comparisons, because while Petra is very lovely, it's also a bit more than I like to spend on nail polish normally. I tend to buy very similar looking colors, and I wanted to see if I did the same thing this time. Here's the start of my little experiment:

Marc Jacobs Petra

I started with China Glaze's Rendezvous With You on my forefinger and ring finger, and Marc Jacob's Petra on my middle and pinky fingers. They're definitely not dupes. They're... mildly similar. Obviously RWY is much more purple. I was somewhat relieved. Then I remembered I had more purple-ish foil polishes. Dun dun dun?

Marc Jacobs Petra Comparison

Here I've got China Glaze Rendezvous With You on my forefinger, Marc Jacob Petra on my middle finger, OPI The World is Not Enough on my ring finger, and OPI It's My Year on my pinky finger. Luckily nothing here is a full on dupe. The World is Not Enough and Petra are similar though. I didn't think It's My Year would be very similar at all, but it is a purple-pink foil. It would be more similar if it didn't have gold shimmer.

Marc Jacobs Petra Comparison

I like this picture because you can see the pretty pink sparkle shimmers in The World is Not Enough. I actually like this one almost as much as Petra. Formula wise, TWINE is much more thin. I have on 4 coats for full opaqueness, while I have on 2 coats of Petra. For anyone curious, I have on 2 coats of RWY and 4 coats of IMY.

If you want to see the post I have of Petra just by itself, you can go here. I've got some sunlight and shade pictures of it.

If you can live with The World is Not Enough not being an exact dupe of Petra, it's still available on Amazon. I hope that's helpful!

Revlon Creme Brulee

Drug store brand today!

My mom likes to say I'm snobby when it comes to makeup, but I'm here to say that drugstore brands can come out with some great polishes too. And vice versa. I've seen some pretty terrible high end nail polish. Anyway, believe it or not, this polish actually got me into painting my nails again after a loong hiatus. I was going to a wedding and wanted to spice up the outfit, and I found that Crème brûlée matched my dress really well! And here I am today! So blah blah blah, here's the polish!

Femme Fatale Coldwraith

Helloo!

I've got one of my favorite indie polishes. This is probably the polish that got me started on indies.

Today, I have Femme Fatale's Coldwraith. I'm really excited about this one. A little something about these polishes, before the pictures. One of my favorite things about Femme Fatale is that a lot of their polishes are named for things from World of Warcraft. This is a cold wraith from the game, if you're wondering. I really am SUCH a sucker for video game themed polish. I've been known to purchase polishes solely based on the fact that they were colors inspired by a game. Oh yes, I'm a nerd, it's true. But Femme Fatale makes such gorgeous glitters, you don't need to be a video game geek to love them. Take a look!

China Glaze Fast Track

What's up!

I can't believe it's already November. I've already started on my Christmas shopping. Every year I start a bit earlier than I did before. I bet companies love that, right? One of these years I'm going to sit in the mall on Christmas Eve and just people watch. That's probably a strange goal, but there it is.
So, more neutrals today; I've got China Glaze's Fast Track to show you. This is from the Hunger Games collection from last year:

OPI A Butterfly Moment

Hello Again!

I think it might be neutrals week this week!

I'm attending a conference next week and I was going through my stash trying to figure out what I'm going to wear on my nails (of course, I'm worried about my nails, right?). Since I'm hoping to make a good impression, I'm thinking it needs to be something a little less.. bright. So I'll be posting some neutral shades this week, since I decided to swatch most of the neutrals I own to decide. First up, OPI's A Butterfly Moment. This was part of Mariah Carey's collection from earlier this year:

China Glaze Blue Years Eve

Hello Again!

I've got China Glaze's Blue Years Eve today, mostly because I wanted to swatch it for anyone that's curious as to what it looks like. It's a fairly old polish, but I think the more the merrier when it comes to pictures of things to buy on the Internet. I used this as a base for one of my favorite indie polishes. Here is Blue Years Eve:

China Glaze Blue Years Eve

China Glaze Blue Years Eve

I used three coats for this, and it was still just a tad but bald in some areas. You can see the baldness near the cuticles of my nails in the sun picture. While I do love this color, it's very very pretty, it's a thin polish. I was surprised by how thin it was; I definitely wouldn't think that it would take 4 coats for full coverage based off of the color in the bottle. It's worth it though, I really do like this color.

I bought this from Head2Toe Beauty. They have really great prices on China Glaze polishes. I tend to get more than one polish when I order from them! I'll be posting the indie polish that I layered over this soon. Thanks for looking!

Zoya Cashmeres and Satins

Hello Again!

I have three polishes that I purchased from Zoya's Cashmeres and Satins 2013 collection. I bought Channing, Giovanna and Maria Luisa. Check them out!

Zoya Channing
Channing: Fiery reddish-orange with a metallic finish.

Zoya Giovanna
Giovanna: Tealish green with a metallic finish. This looks a bit more emerald green in person.

Zoya Maria Luisa
Maria Luisa: Gold flake top coat. This is one coat over Giovanna.

Both Channing and Giovanna are nicely opaque in two coats, and both are just barely frosty looking. They show the smallest hint of brush strokes, but they aren't true frosts by any means. Maria Luisa is an awesome gold flake top coat, loaded with glitter. One coat yields quite a bit of glitter. I think you could build this up to be pretty much opaque, but I like it layered over other polishes best.
I tried putting Maria Luisa (I REALLY want to keep calling this Maria Lucia, I've typed that about 5 times now) over Channing, but the two colors were a bit too similar, it didn't really show up well in photos.

I took these photos indoors, I usually do outdoor shots, wanted to experiment and try something a bit different with lighting.

You can purchase all three of these, and the rest of the collection at Zoya's website.
Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!

Color Club Halo-Graphic

Hi Everyone!

This was my first time taking pictures of a holographic nail polish. I had a pretty good time trying to capture all that rainbow goodness! Today I've got Color Club's Halo-graphic. It's pretty unassuming indoors and in the shade, but outdoors, it's got a really strong holo effect. Check it out!

Color Club Halo-graphic

Color Club Halo-graphic

Color Club Halo-graphic

I noticed outside that I had a bit of polish on my cuticles, so sorry about that. It's hard to tell inside! Aside from that, wow, that's one of the strongest holos I've seen. I like that this one is like a business inside, party outside kind of polish. I think you could really get away with this if you work in a stricter, more professional kind of environment.

This is two coats. I haven't been using a top coat because I'm waiting to get my bottle of Seche Vite in. I have an OPI top coat, but I don't really like it that much. Holos tend to chip on me easier than other types of polish, so it's probably a good idea to wear one with this.

I purchased Halo-graphic at Llarowe, but I've also seen it up at Head2Toe Beauty. I like and have purchased from both of these sites. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!!

Liquid Sky Witching Hour

Hi Everyone, Happy Saturday!

Well, I branched out a bit into the indie world and bought my first Liquid Sky Lacquer, in Witching Hour since I was feeling in the Halloween spirit! Even though Halloween was a few days ago, I still like this one enough that I'd just wear it. Here it is. My cuticles are looking kinda scary:

Liquid Sky Witching Hour
Well, Liquid Sky describes this as a "very sheer purple jelly", and I definitely agree with them. This is over Zoya's Jem, because there's really no way that I could have built up this color on its own to this opaqueness. It has holo moons, black stars and green, silver and orange hex glitter. This one really is pretty cute, but I think the formula on it was a bit strange. It was watery, so that made glitter placement a bit difficult. I didn't have issues with the glitter sinking and getting stuck at the bottom of the bottle though, probably because of the formula. Maybe next time I'll use a lighter base so all the glitters show up easier..
I purchased my bottle of Witching Hour at Llarowe, but I believe you can also purchase this at Liquid Sky's website.

So the other night I went to a friend's Halloween party and dressed up like zombie Alice from Alice in Wonderland. I was trying to go for small details in my costume, and cut my nails up jagged for a zombie manicure, so my nails are much shorter than usual! In hindsight that seems silly, I don't think anyone actually noticed the nails, and I ended up snagging them on everything.

The Flyers game last was so terrible I don't even want to think about it! Hopefully they'll put that business behind them and play marginally better tonight...
